Improper Fractions
(use with UCSMP Pre-Transition Mathematics, Lesson 1-6)
Directions
This interactive manipulative displays representations of mixed numbers and improper fractions. You can convert between various representations by dragging and dropping. For example, to convert a unit into parts simply drag a whole unit to the parts area. However, to convert parts back into a whole unit you need to select the appropriate number of parts. If the parts are each 1/2 of a whole, then you need to select them in multiples of two. To select multiple pieces at a time you can drag a selection rectangle or simply hold down the control key as you click.
You can enter your own fractions at the top or simply choose a random fraction.
